TBEN x RES: Exploring a PhD in Economics (Day 1)

Join us on Day 1 of our 2 day event with the Royal Economics Society exploring PhDs in Economics. From careers, available support and funding, balancing the lifestyle and everything in between. Across the 2 days we have a series of panel events where you can hear from universities, employers and current PhD students as we de-mystify the process.

In this session we will hear from academic and professional economists (and potential employers!) about the various career paths they have taken. This is a unique opportunity to find out about how they have leveraged their degrees and any challenges they have faced along the way, and see the various pathways an economics postgraduate degree can offer.

PANEL: A Career in Economics: Different Pathways

Panellists will talk about their career paths and offer insights into the opportunities available following further studies in Economics. After a brief introduction to the event by Elmyra Chinje (TBEN) we will chat with:

• Alvin Birdi (Professor of Economics Education at Bristol and Director of the Economics Network)

• Mike Brewer (Research Director of Resolution Foundation)

• Denise Hawkes (Professor of Economics at Greenwich and Chair of Teaching and Training Committee at the Royal Economic Society)

• Almudena Sevilla (Professor of Economics at UCL and Chair of Women’s Committee at the Royal Economic Society)
