~ The Black Economists Network
We’re a UK based organisation which seeks to connect, support and inspire Black economists, whilst challenging the lack of diversity in the field
Our Mission
The Black Economists Network (TBEN) is an organisation dedicated to providing a platform through which professionals and students of Black African and Caribbean descent in economics can connect, collaborate, share ideas and support each other. We also seek to challenge the lack of diversity within economics related fields by bringing together and raising the profile of black people in economics by working alongside other organisations on their diversity strategies.

Breaking Barriers -Celebrating Five Years of TBEN!
“As an experienced professional who studied economics at university and now working in banking and finance, I found today really insightful. It was good to hear the panelists talk about certain challenges the economy still faced or are facing at the moment, and how we’re working towards breaking those barriers.”
Take a look at some of the highlights from this milestone event! If you're committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive economics field, we invite you to learn more about TBEN and become a part of our growing network.
March 2025 marked a significant moment for TBEN as we hosted our first ever conference: Breaking Barriers – Celebrating Five Years of TBEN! This impactful day brought together a vibrant community of individuals passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion within economics.
The conference was filled with insightful discussions from inspiring speakers, valuable opportunities for networking, and a collective celebration of TBEN's five-year journey of impact. The energy and engagement throughout the event were truly remarkable and underscored the importance of the work we do together.
The TBEN Ambassador Programme
In partnership with The Bank of England and Resolution Foundation.
The TBEN Ambassador Programme is a year-long initiative actively empowering current UK university students in and around London to champion diversity and inclusion in economics, with the current cycle concluding in June 2025.
The programme commenced with a five-week (three days a week) paid summer Internship (June/July 2024) and continues with ongoing activities throughout the academic year (September 2024 - June 2025).
Participants are currently developing their leadership skills through campus-based events promoting TBEN’s mission. They are also gaining valuable mentorship and career exposure through connections with leading organisations.
The current cohort of TBEN Ambassadors is actively contributing to building a more diverse and inclusive economics field through their engagement and networking.
